Bespoke Curved Shockbox Lockers at Stockeld Park
Introduction
Stockeld Park, a popular children’s adventure park in North Yorkshire, recently invested in a £3.2 million Hive Play Centre. Inside the unique dome-shaped building are four adventure-themed zones designed to delight visiting families. To support the new development, Stockeld Park contacted 3D Lockers to design and supply a bespoke locker solution. The aim was to create a secure, attractive storage feature that could handle high visitor numbers while complementing the distinctive curved layout of the building.
The Hive needed storage lockers that could store shoes and personal items for families visiting the play areas. Each unit had to be durable enough for heavy daily use, with a locking system that avoided the inconvenience of keys. The most complex requirement, however, was the layout: the lockers needed to fit neatly along both concave and convex walls, forming a seamless storage wall inside the dome. Standard lockers were not suitable, so a custom design was required.
The Solution
After surveying the site, our team designed a bespoke curved locker system using a special tapering method. Each locker was made with a wider front and narrower back, creating a “cheese wedge” shape that allowed the units to follow the curve of the walls perfectly. The result was an impressive storage wall offering 252 compartments across two opposing runs of three-tier lockers.
To meet the customer’s need for strength and durability, we recommended our Shockbox lockers with a steel carcass and solid grade laminate doors. These doors are scratch and vandal resistant, making them ideal for high-traffic family attractions where longevity is essential. Each locker compartment was sized at approximately 520mm high, giving ample space for a family’s shoes.
A digital combination lock system was also chosen, enabling families to set their own code and reset it after each use. This eliminated the need for keys and provided a user-friendly experience for visitors. The lockers were finished in Magfall Beech laminate, with matching end panels to give a smart and consistent appearance.
The 3D Lockers team worked closely with Stockeld Park to ensure the lockers were manufactured to exact measurements and installed seamlessly along the curved walls. The bespoke tapering method ensured a flush finish with no gaps, creating a visually striking focal point inside the play centre.
