Outdoor School Lockers for Alfriston High School
Introduction
Alfriston High School is a specialist secondary school for girls aged 11–18 in Buckinghamshire.
The school approached 3D Lockers because they were looking for an outdoor locker solution for students to store their belongings. This meant finding outdoor school lockers specifically suited to an exterior environment. From the initial enquiry, our team worked closely with Alfriston High School to understand its requirements and recommend a suitable solution. Using our specialist knowledge of lockers and storage products, we recommended weather-resistant steel lockers, combined with purpose-made locker stands and external canopies.
3D Lockers then managed the complete package; from helping the school select the right products through to supply, delivery and installation, with aftercare available following completion.
The Challenge
Alfriston High School wanted to create pupil storage while making practical use of their outdoor space. As the lockers would be positioned outside, conventional indoor school lockers were not suitable for the application. The school needed a locker specifically designed for exterior conditions. The project also required more than the lockers themselves. The complete solution needed to consider the locker configuration, security, stands, identification and appearance, as well as canopies to complement the different runs of lockers. Rather than leaving the school to source and coordinate these elements separately, 3D Lockers worked with Alfriston from the outset to develop a complete outdoor storage solution around its requirements.
The Outdoor School Locker Solution
3D Lockers supplied 56 three-tier outdoor steel lockers, providing Alfriston High School with a total of 168 individual storage compartments.
Each locker has the following dimensions:
- 1800mm high
- 400mm wide
- 500mm deep
The lockers were manufactured with zintec steel carcases and zintec steel doors and finished in Flint Grey. Each compartment was fitted with a hasp and staple lock.
Strong Steel Construction
The construction of this locker range is particularly suited to outdoor applications. Outdoor lockers feature a fully welded steel carcass with flush sides. The sides, back and front pillars are cut and folded from a single steel sheet, providing greater rigidity to the locker. The doors are also fitted with vertical stiffeners for added strength. These features combine strength and durability with a streamlined appearance, while the weather-resistant design makes the lockers suitable for exterior spaces.
Bespoke Locker Graphics and Numbering
The school lockers were personalised with bespoke vinyl numbers and coloured animal images. The numbering provides clear identification for the individual compartments. The animal graphics introduce colour and give the lockers some personality across the locker runs, making it easy for pupils to identify their locker. Against the Flint Grey finish, the coloured graphics really stand out and make the locker installation look fun and unique!
Stainless Steel-Framed Locker Stands
The outdoor school lockers were installed on stands featuring stainless steel frames. The stands measure 150mm high x 500mm deep and were supplied in either 1200mm or 2000mm widths to suit the different locker runs.
External Locker Canopies
In addition to the lockers, 3D Lockers also supplied and installed external canopies. The canopies feature a robust all-weather construction with translucent polycarbonate roofs. They were finished in grey to complement the Flint Grey lockers. Canopies were supplied in various lengths to suit the individual locker runs. We were able to provide Alfriston High School with one coordinated solution rather than treating the different elements as separate projects.
Why These Outdoor School Lockers Were Chosen
The most important factor was the outdoor location for the lockers. Alfriston wanted to use an outdoor area for pupil storage, so the selected lockers needed to be suitable for an exterior environment. External steel lockers are well suited to this type of application and the perfect option for the school.
Delivery and Installation
Our involvement continued once the products had been selected. 3D Lockers coordinated the supply, delivery and installation of the complete outdoor locker package. Managing the lockers and canopies as part of the same package helped create a coordinated installation for the school. We worked with them to make sure the lockers were installed and completed suring the summer holidays and ready for the start of the new term in September.
The Results
The completed installation provides Alfriston High School with 168 individual outdoor locker compartments for students to store books, bags and coats securely. By selecting lockers designed for exterior conditions, the school has been able to make practical use of space within its outdoor area. The matching grey canopies offer that extra level of protection for the lockers and for the pupils during wet weather conditions.
